Halloween Treats from the Smooshers

Some may think it's a little early to be talking about Halloween, but it's really not that far off!  And since Halloween is the topic of the Blog Roll this week I thought this would be a great time to showcase some of the fun Halloween items the members of the Polymer Clay Smooshers guild have listed in their shops.  Personally, I love Halloween and all things related to the holiday: black cats, witches, magic, skeletons (preferably glow in the dark), bats, and all those other spooky things ;-) When I was a kid I loved dressing up and going out trick or treating with my brothers.  And I've had several black cats who all seemed to have a little extra magic, especially on Halloween.  As an artist I love sculpting all sorts of Halloween themed pieces.  This time of year seems to really fire up my creative energies (I think it's all the magic in the air)!  And looking through the shops of my fellow Smooshers, I can see I'm not the only one inspired by Halloween!
Here's a Winged Skull Cuff Bracelet from Mortimer Inc- wicked cool!

And this Witchy Mouse with BOO Banner from Quernus Crafts is absolutely adorable!

And of course pumpkins are always a part of Halloween.  Which is where these Pumpkin Stack earrings from Wyvern Designs come in!

And this mummy from Fantasy Clay is so much fun!

And finally we have this Vintage Halloween Cat pendant from Gems PC Creations .

Blog Roll- Everything Is Just Beachy

The theme for this week's Blog Roll is Everything Is Just Beachy, which is very fitting for what is usually considered the beginning of Summer.  Many people celebrate Memorial Day as the unofficial start of summer, having cookouts, opening their pools, going camping, and having family get togethers.  And the weather (in my neck of the woods at least) usually gets pretty warm during this weekend, making a dip in the pool or lake very inviting!  This is when we often see the upper 80's or even 90's, and this is when I really miss living right on the lake!  The members of The Polymer Clay Smooshers guild have created all sorts of wonderful beach themed clay items, and I wanted to showcase a few of them on this long holiday weekend.
What's a beach without a lighthouse?  This Lighthouse ACEO is a micromosaic from Kael Mijoy with tons of tiny detail.

And of course mermaids like to hang out at the beach too.  This cute little mermaid from Kimis Jewelry From The Heart can be made into a bracelet or a necklace- your choice!

And while you're swimming you might be lucky enough enough to discover a seahorse like this one from Luvbeads by LL.

And this pin from Mortimer Inc is called Life's a Beach- just perfect for this week's theme!

You can also find unique and interesting starfish while at the beach.  This purple starfish pendant from Tina Holden Design is just beautiful!

And those are just a few of the beachy creations from some of the Smooshers!  You can click on any of the pictures to be directed to the listing and learn more about each of these wonderful pieces.  To see more beach themed clay creations stop by http://wyverndesigns.blogspot.com/2012/05/some-of-my-favorite-time-is-spent-on.html.
Thanks for stopping by, and have a happy Memorial Day!
And don't forget there's only 2 days left to vote on the theme for our next Challenge.  Just use the poll at the top of the blog to place your vote ;-)

The theme for the next Smooshers Challenge is Textures from Nature

Our fans have voted and the winning theme for our next Challenge was Textures From Nature!  Thank you all so much for taking the time to vote and give our guild members a wonderful theme to work from!  This particular theme gives us a lot of choices as to what we can create.  I'm envisioning textured leaf jewelry, vases resembling a hollow tree, silky textured flower petals, and even furry animals!  To enter these challenges you need to be a member of the Polymer Clay Smooshers Guild on ArtFire.  You're allowed to enter 2 items, which must be made from polymer clay and listed in your ArtFire shop.  Your entries need to be relevant to the theme and you need to post a link to them in this thread http://www.artfire.com/guild_forums/view_thread/1159 in our guild forums.  The deadline for entries is April 12th.  I'm really looking forward to seeing the entries for this one!  In the meantime, here are a few items that are already available in some of our member's shops.
Here's a delightfully whimsical fish pendant from Mortimer Inc complete with scales and textured skin.  You may not see a fish quite like this swimming around in the nearby river, but fantasy creatures count for this challenge ;-)
Fun, Flirty, Girly Fish Pin or Pendant
And this Froggy by the Pond ring from MysticalMeDesigns has textured soil and greenery, and even a tiny mushroom!  The amount of detail in such a small piece is just amazing!

And these rose pens from RosyWriters mimic the texture of beautiful roses you might find in your garden.

This necklace from SharpArtbyDawna has a very natural and organic look  to it.

This vase from CreativeCritters not only has textured bark, but fur texture on the cute raccoon ;-)

These items aren't entries in the Textures From Nature Challenge, just some samples of things that would qualify.  If you'd like to learn more about any of these pieces, just click on the picture to be directed to their listings.
Thanks so much for stopping by, and be sure to check back to see what new creations our members come up with!
