Introducing DanasJewelryEtc

DanasJewelryEtc

What got you interested in polymer clay as a medium?
I think my mom had gotten a magazine with some polymer clay instructions in it, thought it looked interesting and went an bought some and that is all it took.

What inspires you to create?
I don't think there is anything in particular, the main thing is I have to be in right frame of mind. Having a custom order is fun to me too.

Do you have a favorite technique?
I like to do the Ikat Cane and swirling.

Of everything you have created which is your favorite?
This was a custom order for someone and I get so many compliments on it

What do you prefer to make out of polymer clay and why?
I prefer to make jewelry because it is something that even in times of recession people still wear it, it really never goes out of style either.

How do you decide what to make?
I usually just sit in my studio at my desk and think and whatever idea pops in this little brain of mine is usually what I make. Sometimes just holding and playing with the clay will bring something to mind.

Is there something you wish you could make in clay that you have not yet?
A Kaleidoscope Cane. I don't know what it is about some canes that intimidate me, but I'm working on that.

What makes polymer clay a better fit for your products than other mediums?
Cost has alot to do with it. Look at ceramic, the pottery clay is more expensive and then you have to have a kiln which is very high not to mention the electricity to run it. With polymer clay I usually can get it on sale at a really good price, you really don't have to buy anything special to create with it, even though the pasta machines are very nice, and then you need your oven or a toaster oven and you are ready to go.

What is your best advice for someone starting out in polymer clay?
Relax and have fun!!!
