What got you interested in polymer clay as a medium?
I was watching HGTV one day and saw a very basic show on covering a glass vessel with PC. So I went and got a few blocks of clay and a pasta machine... I've been hooked ever since!

What inspires you to create?
I would have to say.. it's a mixture of my every day environment and my own imagination. Sometimes my husband will throw ideas at me.. which comes in handy when I feel like I can't use my brain any longer.
Just today while driving in the carpool.. one of the kids gave me a few more ideas of things to create..

Do you have a favorite technique?
Hmmm... I would have to say that my favorite is sculpting. I love to sculpt faces or critters.. I hardly ever use molds or cookie cutters.

Of everything you have created which is your favorite?
Now that's not fair..(hehe) Because I have so many favorite.. Ok.. here is the top of the list favorite.. Polymer clay love letter on polymer clay "paper" with polymer clay pencil.

Love letter and pencils

What do you prefer to make out of polymer clay and why?
I think that I will refer back to question #3. I love to sculpt things. I have tried and failed at making flower canes, or butterfly canes.. I think that my worst try at making a cane has to be a fish, tried to make it from a tutorial and here is the horrible outcome.

Millefiori canes gone wrong

How do you decide what to make?
I use my imagination, go by things I see in my every day life, suggestions from others, photos from magazines, it just all depends.. If I see something that I might like to try, then I have a go at it, if it fails.. then that's more for the scrap clay jar.

Is there something you wish you could make in clay that you have not yet?
Yes.. I really wish I could make the canes that every one is making. Flowers, butterflies, things of that nature... But I think I have also realized that I don't enjoy that as much as I do sculpting.

What makes polymer clay a better fit for your products than other mediums?
I think that I really love the feel of the clay in my hands! The pure satisfaction I get when I sculpt something and I am in complete control of that item, the outcome, the shape, the size.. every aspect of the item, I am in total and complete control over! I just had an epiphany!

What is your best advice for someone starting out in polymer clay?
I would have to say... don't go into this with grand expectations that you will make your first item, or cane.. exactly like the pros that have been at it for years and years. Also.. don't quit when it gets hard, or something doesn't turn out the way you expected, or the way the book shows. It is YOUR personal touch, and why would you want a carbon copy of someone Else's work anyway? I say.. put your own personalty into every item you create, pour your heart into your items. Make things you love making and you will find which is your strongest point.
Also... do a lot of research! I can't stress that enough. Before I even created anything, I went online, the library, book stores.. did all my research on what to get to maximize my talents, I tried different items and found what worked for some, didn't work for me, I adapted my own sense of technique to my items.
